What helps against hair loss?

Hair loss in men and women is common and is mainly determined by heredity - in other words, you cannot avoid it without specific resources.  Dealing with baldness may have a major impact on your self-confidence. But these days there are some genuine solutions and also good medicines available to stop the balding completely and/or even reverse the process partially, especially if you start taking the medication on time. Below are two products with proven scientific results.

1. Dutasteride/ Avidart®

Hair loss prevention is also possible with this drug but it is not officially registered to prevent hair loss. The active substance in this medicine called Dutasteride is basically an extended version of Finasteride, because Dutasteride blocks both types of DHT, whereas Finasteride blocks only one type. The reason that these pills are not officially approved to prevent baldness is simply because the manufacturer (MSD) has never presented for inspection. The manufacturer did not think that there was sufficient difference between Avodart ® and Propecia ® to justify the very expensive costs of testing, obtaining approval and marketing the drug.

2. Minoxidil

Minoxidil (sold under the name of Regaine ®) is an older remedy for baldness and is sold as a lotion or foam. The active ingredient in this lotion is called Minoxidil and is also for sale under this generic name.

Minoxidil works quite differently from Propecia ® and Avodart ® because it is applied directly to the scalp. The lotion or foam dilates the blood vessels to the hair shafts, and ensures that hairs can grow better. The results of Minoxidil (Regaine ®) are generally not very good, because it does not address the cause of the baldness and only slightly delays the actual hair loss process.

However, the product is still one of the 2 top recommended products because it works very well in combination with the previously discussed medicines. It targets the cause and it provides optimal stimulation of the scalp so that new hair can grow more easily.

None of the above drugs produces new hair growth and therefore a hair transplantation is still the only method to grow new hairs on bald places.
